Watching the webcam is one thing; standing at the buoy yourself is another. Here is what to know if a trip to the Southernmost Point in Key West is on your calendar.

Where It Is. The buoy sits at the corner of South and Whitehead Streets in Key West’s Old Town, about a half-mile walk from the busiest stretch of Duval Street. It is an easy stop to work into a walk along the waterfront or a longer day exploring Old Town.

When to Go. The Southernmost Point is popular at every hour, but the crowds and the line for photos are thinnest early in the morning, before the cruise ship crowds and midday heat arrive. Sunset draws its own crowd, since the spot faces open water and a clear view west. If a photo without much of a wait matters to you, aim for sunrise or the first hour after.

Getting There. Old Town Key West is walkable, and the Southernmost Point is close enough to most Duval Street hotels to reach on foot. The Duval Loop trolley and the Conch Tour Train both pass nearby, and parking is limited and metered in the surrounding blocks, so many visitors park farther out and walk in.
