How to See Yourself on the Southernmost Webcam

One of the most fun things to do at the Southernmost Point is wave at family and friends back home, live on the webcam. It is free, it takes a minute, and it makes a great souvenir. Here is how to make sure they see you and how to save the moment.

Construction note: through early 2027, the original buoy at South and Whitehead is fenced off for seawall and plaza work, and the webcam is still pointed at that corner. Stay on public sidewalks outside the work zone. Where you can stand in view will change as construction moves along, so use the live view on your phone (step 2) to find your spot.

Step 1: Tell Someone to Tune In

Before you walk over, text the people you want to surprise the link: southernmostpointwebcam.com. Tell them roughly when you will be there. The live stream works in any web browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with no app or login needed.

Step 2: Open the Cam on Your Own Phone

The easiest way to find yourself on camera is to watch the stream while you are standing there. Open the Southernmost Webcam on your phone, then move around until you can pick yourself out of the crowd. Wearing a bright color or holding up a sign makes this much easier, especially on a busy afternoon.

Step 3: Wave, and Be Patient

Live video streams have a short delay, often several seconds and sometimes longer, depending on the viewer’s connection. So when your friend says “I don’t see you,” give it a moment. Wave for a good 15 to 20 seconds, and big, slow gestures show up better than quick ones. Stay in one place until they confirm they have spotted you.

Step 4: Grab a Screenshot

Ask the person watching at home to take a screenshot while you are on screen, or take one yourself on your phone. It is a fun photo from a different angle than everyone else’s selfie at the buoy.

Step 5: Find Yourself Later in the Cam Archive

Nobody watching live? No problem. The Cam Archive saves images from the webcam throughout the day. Note the time you were at the corner, then open the archive, choose the hour and minute, and step forward and back with the Previous and Next buttons until you find yourself. Save the image to keep it.

Do not wait too long: archive images are kept for roughly 24 hours before they are cleared, so check the same day or the next morning.

Tips for the Best Webcam Moment

  • Go when it is quiet. Early morning or late evening makes you much easier to spot. See the best time to visit.
  • Make a sign. A big “HI MOM” on a piece of cardboard is a Key West webcam classic. Big, bold letters are the most readable.
  • Celebrate something. Birthdays, anniversaries, proposals and retirement trips all make great webcam moments.
  • Be mindful of others. Keep your moment short if there is a line, and stay out of traffic and construction areas.

The webcam shows a public space, so anyone at the corner may appear on the stream. You can read more in our privacy policy and webcam FAQ.
