Answers to the questions we hear most about the Southernmost Webcam, the Cam Archive and the Southernmost Point itself. Do not see your question? Contact us.
Yes. The homepage shows a live video stream from Key West, 24 hours a day, with only a short streaming delay. Separately, the Cam Archive stores still images captured throughout the day.
The camera watches the Southernmost Point Buoy at the corner of South and Whitehead Streets in Key West, Florida, the famous marker for the southernmost point in the continental United States. See location and directions.
The City of Key West is replacing the storm-damaged seawall behind the buoy and rebuilding the surrounding streets and plaza. The buoy has been protected under wraps since September 2025 and is expected to be repainted and reopened after the plaza work, which the city estimates will run into early spring 2027. A replica buoy at 1400 Duval Street is open for photos in the meantime. Follow along on our construction updates page.
Occasionally the stream drops because of a power or internet outage at the camera, scheduled maintenance, or severe weather. Try the refresh button in the player first. If the camera is still offline, check back a little later. We monitor the feed and restore it as quickly as we can. In the meantime, the Cam Archive may show recent images.
Yes. The corner is lit by streetlights, and the stream runs all night. Late evening is one of the most entertaining times to watch, as Key West’s night owls stop by for photos. Sunrise over the water is a favorite too. See sunrise and sunset times.
Key West is on Eastern Time, the same as New York and Miami. It observes daylight saving time, so it is on EDT from March to November and EST the rest of the year. Archive times are shown in local Key West time.
Yes. The stream plays in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers, with no app or account needed. If playback stutters, try a stronger Wi-Fi or cellular signal, or reload the page.
Images in the Cam Archive are kept for roughly 24 hours, then cleared automatically. If you want to save an image of yourself, grab it the same day.
Open the live cam on your phone while you are at the corner, wave, and have someone at home take a screenshot. Or note the time and look yourself up in the Cam Archive afterward. Full instructions: How to See Yourself on the Southernmost Webcam.
You are welcome to share a screenshot of yourself with friends and family. For any media, broadcast, website or commercial use of webcam video or images, please contact us first.
Not quite. Nearby Ballast Key is the true southernmost point of the continental United States, and parts of Key West itself reach a little farther south. The buoy marks the southernmost point you can visit on a public street. The full explanation is in Is It Really the Southernmost Point?
The closest point of Cuba is about 94 statute miles away, and Havana is about 90 nautical miles away. See Is Cuba Really 90 Miles Away?
No. The Southernmost Point is a public street corner, free and open around the clock, and so is the replica at 1400 Duval Street. The only cost is your time in line. Here is the best time to go.
The webcam is operated by Progressive IMC as part of a family of Florida Keys cameras and sites that includes Live Duval Street and KeysCams.com. Learn more about the Southernmost Webcam.
